Slava 2428 from 2012

Bought this one in early 2012 -- a Slava 2428 manual wind movement (no auto).

This watch is manual wind, has a central seconds hand, a day and date calendar, a quick date change pusher at 2 o'clock... and is in a pseudo-sports like case, meant to look heavy duty capable (but only look mind you  - style over substance) same as this one -- Slava 2427 Automatic.

Slava's 2428 manual wind movement... supposed to be more reliable than its related automatic 2427 movement, especially as regards calendar operation.

Back.

The case-back is off to look at the movement.

Nice looking compact movement with twin barrels.

At Moscow's All-Russia Exhibition Center

A walk through the All-Russia Exhibition Center aka the Exhibition of Achievements of the People's Economy (VDNKh) on a snowy winter day of Jan 25, 2014.

Getting there by Moscow Monorail -- here I am at a Moscow Monorail station on the way to VDNKh. The Moscow Monorail is an elevated city train system.

Lots of GAZelle and other trucks seen through the monorail train carriage window.

A see-through lift garage.

Tow trucks known as "crocodiles" on account of they're green. They tow your car if you park it in the wrong place. There's currently a war ongoing between them and Moscow's motorists. Being a some-time motorist myself, I almost feel like throwing a Molotov cocktail at them. They are the brain child of Moscow's current deranged mayor.

Central entrance to the VDNKh exhibition... we are going through it.

Some penguin figures... may be representing some cartoon characters, I don't know.

Along the central alley.

More penguin characters.

Affordable Soviet Chronographs - Page 2

My little contribution is there too (on Page 2).

Canteen Lunch

Another post on the theme of Food.

A full three-course lunch which I enjoyed in a workers' canteen some time in December last year, I think it was December 10, 2014.

The canteen was a Soviet-style workers's canteen where you have a choice of several dishes for each course, where you eat with real forks and spoons out of proper plates and not just with your dirty fingers out of cardboard boxes as you do in certain other places. Also very moderately priced, too.

Not easy to find nowadays in Moscow... but lots of fast food places. This is what proper Russian cuisine looks like albeit at the entry level -- at a workers' canteen level.

A three course lunch (or dinner actually) -- broccoli salad, pea soup-puree and stuffed eggplant (aubergines?).

Like I said I am using proper cutlery... not eating out of paper boxes for a change.

Year 2015 Will Be One Second Longer

A Daily Mail article...

Time lords in France declare 2015 will be one second longer (link)

It seems to suggest that it'll be like the Y2K bug, remember that one?

CD Collection: War of the Worlds

My CD collection countdown continues...

It is 1995 but I think I bought it in 2001 or 2002. Supposed to be a licensed Russia version.

Anyway, there is nothing wrong with it... except my photography that is.

Where 3133s Can Still Be Found

The Poljot 3133 movement is a manual wind chronograph movement with a long history.

For more information about the Poljot 3133 movement you can search this blog for 3133 or just google it.

Watches with the movement, both new and old, are very collectible and getting more so by the day because the movement ceased production in 2011 and also for many other reasons which are maybe the subject for another post.

However, I could not help notice that you can still by new (NOS) watches with the movement... even on Amazon... but only if you are prepared to be content with Moscow Classic branded watches (of which I haven't bought a single one yet, so pass no judgement one way or the other).

Anyway here they are... in my astore even.

For example, a nice looking R-7 Semerka (Strela looks).

Tverskaya to Red Square

Streets of Moscow -- a walk along Tverskaya Street on and almost to Red Square on the first day of the new 2015 year, in the evening.

Starting along Tverskaya Street which leads on to the Kremlin.

At the Central Post Office (with the screen), Red Square can already be seen in the distance.

What looks like a giant New Year Tree toy thronged by people, I don't find it very interesting.

Center is what used to be the Marxist History Museum.

Unfortunately the weather is nasty -- a major thaw, snow to slush everywhere, grey skies but it is warm for the season.

DIM: Lincoln Town Car 2 Gen

My DIM - Detroit Iron in Moscow series continues...

Today's full-sized car is a Lincoln Town Car 2nd Generation spotted and photographed by me in Moscow in August last year.

As usual back yards, side roads and narrow alleyways is the places to go to if you want to find these beasts in Moscow.

Old and New Arbat - Streets of Moscow

Streets of Moscow continues...

Mobile phone pictures of Moscow's Old (Stary) and New (Novy) Arbat streets on December 29, 2014 just before the New Year.

Old Arbat first in wintry conditions, like minus 10 Celcius - nice.

New Year stalls selling souvenirs also food, including expensive sturgeon caviar -- I saw it.

New Arbat now... Moscow's famous New Arbat high-rises -- two rows of them, dez rez and expensive too.

The House of the Book book store on Novy Arbat.

Very blue skys on December 29, 2014.
