Restaurant Zhiguli

My restaurants...

...late lunch at 17:00 in Restaurant-Bar Zhiguli on Novy Arbat, Moscow, last Wednesday, July 16. It used to be the whole building but now it is just a rather small area almost in the basement. 

Okroshka, a salad with carrot, cheese and sauce, no idea what it is called, and a glass of tea. Okroshka is a kind of cold soup, this one made with kvass.

Okroshka was cold, as I said, which is good on a hot day, it was +32 Celsius, 6/10.

I liked the salad even better, 7/10.

Tea with a teabag. Actually they drink beer there but I didn't take any for some reason.

Price, about RUB 250.

In fact, I have a pretty good idea they are owned by the restaurant and are there on purpose -- these cars were branded domestically as the Zhiguli same as the name of the restaurant.

This restaurant is a Soviet nostalgia themed restaurant.

No, it is a kind of photo partition behind which is entry to the restrooms. I know who they are. Do you?

May Day Cactus

Here's the little culprit from my apartments -- burst into bloom to celebrate May Day - the International Workers' Day !

Down with the capitalists! Mayday, mayday...

 

No idea what it's called or even if it has a name. 

It is one of those little Dutch greenhouse cactuses (cacti?) sold in every shopping mall here in Moscow -- "Dutch mutants" :)

 At least it has blossomed.

 The others are no so inclined at the moment... or ever.

 

 

 

Nice flowers... and there are a lot of them with more on the way. 

I hope haven't spoiled things by watering it today. 

Urofa 59 Based Tutima, Hanhart and 1st MWF Chronographs and Their Re-Issues

This photo borrowed from the Internet shows re-issues (replicas? copies?) of the famed Urofa-based chronographs made during WWII by Tutima, Glashuette, and Hanhart and then by the First Moscow Watch Factory after the war. The re-issues utilize the Poljot 3133 chronograph movement which is also a great movement in its own right whose production may have been now discontinued.

                                 

The legal question as to who owns rights to this chrono design (if anybody does) is rather complicated. The difficulty is that both Tutima- and Hanhart making equipment went to the victors as war reparations. The Tutima workshop ended up in Moscow as part of the aforementioned First Moscow Watch Factory where up to 3,000-5,000 such chronographs (1MWF above) were made in the late 1940s and the early 1950s, while Hanhart's equipment went to France, having been in the French zone of occupation.

I believe these 3133-based re-issues (replicas, copies) can still be found on the internet but quality varies, some issues have been reported.
