To get the official Space-ready stamp of approval from NASA, watches have to be subjected to testing at 6g as well as drastic fluctuations in temperature and pressure. Very few pass muster, but the Omega Speedmaster made the grade, becoming the first watch on the moon 45 years ago this month - a milestone it's celebrating by releasing the stunning, limited-edition Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 45 Anniversary. However, it wasn't the first to make it past the stratosphere. Here's GQ's brief history of interstellar timepieces…

It is not without inaccuracies of course, especially as far as USSR watches are concerned...
