The Big Mac

In the words of the great late Warren Zevon, "Enjoy every sandwich".

And that is exactly what I am doing -- enjoying all kinds of food, mainly cheap, in my Food series, and enjoying (and rating) McDonald's offerings specifically in this one


The Bic Mac today... this one was taken hostage at a McDonald's drive-by window, driven out of town and executed... consumed for lunch in the country last October.


Actually, as was pointed out elsewhere, the Big Mac is a unique burger in terms of its structure -- it has not just two buns as per usual but all three with a middle bun separating the two meat putties. At the moment I can't think of any other burger with this kind of structure, not that I am an expert or anything.

Paper bag. Looks like every burger has its own dedicated paper bag to be taken away in in Russia's McDonalds.

The price question - RUB 90 for the Big Mac which, at current exchange rates, is about US$ 1.5 -- Russia has got one of the cheapest (if not THE...) Big Macs... in the world.

A meat putty under top bun.


Under the top meat putty is some lettuce, two gherkin slices and a splash of "secret" sauce.


Under the middle bun is another putty on top of  a slice of cheese and some more lettuce.



This Big Mac looks a bit tired... which is understandable, given a 2 hour car drive.

Appearance- 7/10 

Portion - 5/10 - as for me, not enough for a lunch alone, either take two or take a bag of fries.

Taste - 6/10 - not too bad really, from memory I thought it would be less enjoyable.

McDonald's places have been in Russia since 1989.

Like them or hate them (and many do), they are a fact of life and have the biggest number of outlets compared to other Western fast-food chains, and I think they are the only one to have 24-hour drive through services.
