 Yesterday lunched in pared-down Russian style on a blin (pl. blini), 0.5l kvas and a banana looking on Arbat goings-on

Dined at G.U.M. on Red Square, USSR Cuisine Revisited

 About two weeks ago went to dine basically in the Kremlin - at the State Department Store (GUM) on Red Square, the largest in the world, and the oldest too.

This the place I had lunch - Stolovaya No. 57 at GUM - since 1957 but in a 2007 reincarnation.

It specializes in USSR cuisine - the best cuisine there is - and I have tried everything, so here goes: a kharcho soup bowl, meatballs with mashed potatoes, dressed herring ("under a fur coat") salad, a fast cabbage roll, meat pie, a citrus salad (dessert) and two glasses of compote.

Very filling, didn't have dinner .

About a month + back, in February 2024, on a nice sunny and suitably cold winter day with lots of snow, was passing through the Moscow Zoo, and here are some quick photos.

Didn't pass by on a chance to eat out at the zoo, Zoo Canteen, a basic canteen dinner.

Canteen level food, eatable but nothing major or too good, overpriced also. 

But one likes to eat out now and again typically at least once a week, even at self-service places like this one - it's good for you. 

But of course a proper restaurant would be better.
