Canteen Lunch

In My Restaurants series where I investigate, and report on, the joys of eating out here in Russia, here is a report of another lunch that was had at a kind of "workers' canteen" in a small town near Moscow.

What I had was a plate of cabbage soup, a ham salad with cheese, tomato juice, a "compote" drink and for the main dish, beef tongue with sour cream sauce and a side of some macaroni.

And here we have meatballs, cabbage salad, the rest is the same.

Very nutritiously satisfying and tasty, although the tongue could be warmer.

Beef tongue is a meat sub-product which is not to everyone's taste however its meat is very healthy on account of vitamins and minerals as well as healthy oils contained in it.

Definitely much healthier than red meat.

Interiors.

300 rubles per person.

Sunflower for Today

In the northern hemisphere, the summer is now well and truly over - it being past September 22 - but this sunflower at my country place has only just bloomed.

But then, in the country, we live in the northern swampland.

Suited for the Rat Race

 Suited for the Rate Race...

...just for today though and appropriately the rat face is rejoined in a grey suit du jour aka nothing fancy.

So just a grey micro pattern suit it is.

Regarding trouser length, I feel the length is correct on these ones but if you do wear a suit as opposed to putting one on for making a few pictures like, say, on styleforum ) and as you progress through the day the trousers invariably and naturally tend to slip lower than ideal, especially if there is a lot of walking and sitting down and standing up, and hence the appearance of too much break.

A pair of suspenders would solve the problem but I don't wear them and anyway these pants are for wearing with a belt as they have belt loops and the cut is for the belt too.

In Beer Brewlok Leshy IPA

Here is a new beer in my Beer and Beer Photography series on this blog: the Brewlok Leshy IPA

This one is a proper IPA!

Drinks nicely and produces a pleasant steady and long-lasting effect (for a beer).

My view, and namely, that top Russian craft beers are the best in the world, is well-known to readers of this blog, and this view is based on my honest beer drinking experience and to date I have tried about 150 craft beers from countries like Belgium, Germany, England, Scotland, Holland, Italy, Japan, Norway, the US, China, the Czech Republic and others that I forget right now in addition to those from Russia.

Leshy is a forest deity in Eastern European mythology, so an axe is entirely apropos here.

 Lumberjack's lunch.

Dinner in Dmitrov

The Friday before last, your correspondent here and this blog's chief writer and photographer had dinner (in the sense of lunch) at a cafe in Dmitrov.

Above is the cafe Cherry Orchard so named after a play by Chekhov.

The cafe is located in Dmitrov, which is a city some 100 km north of Moscow, and its terrace opens on to a view on the Dmitrov Kremlin, and a "kremlin" is basically an old fortified center of town, a town fortress, typically going back to medieval times.

In this case, it dates back to the 1100s!

Anxiously awaiting to be served whilst still enjoying the view.

First course is an Okroshka soup which is good for summer as it's a cold soup.

Then I had "Late Breakfast" fried eggs with tomatoes and cheese and an Olivier salad also known as Russian salad.

And lastly, a dish of potatoe pancakes with sour cream.

Views of the city of Dmitrov.

Countess O.D. Milyutina's wooden house built in the late 19th century (the 1800s) and is about 130 years old.

On the right is the earth rampart or mound protecting the old Kremlin built in the early 12th century.

960 meters long and 14 meters tall, it supported some wooden fortress walls and was once stormed by the Mongols in the early 12th century... almost before Britain was a country ) and 600 years or 6 centuries before the US of A.
