It's a chronograph and it's a Seiko but... it's a quartz watch and quartz watches are dumb and unteresting watches for un-discerning people compared to pure mechanicals and in this case there is its owner who most likely can be trusted with remembering how hand-winding a watch works so gets a quartz watch hung on him by whoever dresses him.

Medvedev's Apple Watch

Echo Moskvy reports that Russia's Prime Minister (second in command to Prez Putin) Dmitry Medvedev was seen last week sporting an Apple watch (unless it is some other such device).

He is known for his tastes in sports-styled electronic watches and his likes of Apple products in particular, and once was entertained by Steve Jobs himself when he visited California as President of Russia in 2009 or thereabout.

Overall, it it is unlikely to add to his popularity as he has virtually none and is mostly seen as a clown and a figure of fun, though probably not harmless.

Gérard Depardieu Launches Exclusive Watches

Gérard Depardieu launched recently a collection of exclusive watches, Proud to be Russian. He is.

He may have been undone a little by the timing... in light of recent events, but it is hardly his fault.  

The watch features the crest of Russia - a double-headed eagle made of pure gold. Three varieties are said to be offered -- chronograph, tourbillon and an automatic.

The watches will be made by Cvstos of Switzerland which has this photo on its Facebook page.

No word on the price yet.

I also have in my collection a couple of watches with the double-headed bird Slava 2428 and Poljot President 2940.

Schwarzenegger 192 ChS

According to this Russian article [in Russian], Arnold Schwarzenegger may have been wearing a Soviet Military Zlatoust Diver 192 ChS (or 191-ChS, to be exact) wristwatch.

And also in this knife wielding (and budget cutting) video...

It has to be said though that there is a difference of opinion. One school of thought is that they are several watches, at least some of which are Russian Diver series Invictas... Still the concept and idea for [the relaunched] Invicta's Russian Divers were borrowed from the Zlatoust Diver in the first place.

To my untrained eye, those on a strap with metal things like rivets look more like Zlatoust, while the thing in the video could be an Invicta Russian Diver 2625 model, ditto on the 2008 Esquire cover below.

I have this post about my 10+ year-old Casio calculator watch -- Casio CA53w-1z. 

But now it appears that Trevor Phillips of the GTAV fame (the less said about him the better wink wink) wears the exact same watch as you can see in pictures posted on the internet.

Well, what's good for Marty McFly is good for Trevor Phillips, no? Not that I think they have much in common. Or maybe all that travel back to future, forward to the past and present didn't do him much good, he grew up... and became Trevor?

Celebrity Watch: Johnny Depp with a Komandirskie Tank Black Dial Watch

The bezel strongly suggests it is still a USSR watch, probably a 2414 manual wind movement.

I have a Komandirskie tank watch too, a current Russian version, and am going to post some pictures soon.
