Strawberry Margarita, Long Island, Snails, Coffee

Here is something from recent - a strawberry Margarita, a Long Island Ice Tea, coffee and some few snails, in dramatic lighting.

A meat is a meat no matter where it comes from, cow or cockroach

Eating Out in Moscow: Cafe Misada Israeli Street Food

Yesterday we happened to eat out for the reason of being too lazy to cook dinner at home, so I felt compelled to make some quick smartphone pictures for My Restaurants series since it was a new place and the kind of food that I don't eat often.

The place is Cafe Misada somewhere in North Moscow that purports to serve "Israeli street food" with both Israeli and Arabic dishes, no idea how authentic they might be.

Cooking takes some time and we can look around.

One can also take some surreptitious pictures on the smartphone while pretending to browse it.

This is more like a fast-food place.

Finally, the order is served... or actually you take it yourself after being beeped by a beeper like device.

We ordered a dish called Shawarma Arabic with Angus beef and Falafel Israeli with hummus, all with pickles but I got a bite of both.

Also, we had some natural lemonade and a cup of coffee.

The lemonade is called Fritz-Limo and seeing as it is supposed to be German I wonder if there is an attempt at a joke here somewhere.

Shawarma Arabic with Angus beef, some nice dip and a side of fries and some pickles.

And Falafel ala Israel with some dip, hummus and likewise pickles.

Pickles is what I liked least of all, and one of the peppers was nearly too strong for my stomach but not to worry.

On the other hand, hummus is what I liked most.

Another Day, Another... Restaurant

Here is what else is going on in this Blogger's life. I am in a grey wool tailored jacket (semi-canvass too for those in the know).

A recent lunch at a local beer restaurant, and a new blog post entry in My Restaurants series.

The restaurant is a beer drinking establishment primarily so not much in the way of choice as regards food NOT to accompany beer or vice versa.

Not much choice in the beer section of the menu either, as far as I am concerned.

They are into mainstream pisswasser staples and I only drink craft and microbrewery.

However, it was not about beer drinking this time.

So we went for two Russian salads, cod cutlets with mashed potatoes, and some other fish, mackerel I believe with baked potatoes. Some red Spanish tempranillo wine for me.

For desserts, a slice of Esterházy cake each.

3000 Ruble per two which is about 40 dead presidents.

Оmelette for a quick lunch

In a continuation of my food series (what I ate), here is How does some pre-fab Omelette sound for a quick lunch whilst shopping?

Some time ago, maybe even last August, had a quick lunch on a piece of omellete pre-cooked at Auchan, a French store chain here in Russia.

Said omelette was purchased in the Ready-To-Eat section, warmed up in a microwave oven at an Auchan Express Cafe.

Also had a cup of coffee to wash it down.

Eating Out Moscow: Lukoil Service Station Cafe

I am reviving My Restaurants series of posts where I reported on eating out here in Moscow, with another series of posts on the same subject starting with fast food and some Scandinavian fast food at that.

Here is a hot dog with bacon and 300 ml of Americano coffee (aka diluted espresso) I had for lunch on August 5, 2018, Sunday, and the venue was a Lukoil filling station cafe.

It appears Lukoil service (filling) station cafes serve Sibylla fast food.

According to wikipedia, Sibylla is a chain of fast food restaurants located throughout Sweden and Finland, where they mostly hold the concession for service station food serveries.

1932 saw the first Sibyl sausage served. Since then, menus with french fries, hamburgers, meatballs, chicken, kebabs, and hot dogs have been developed.

Sibylla has been seen (and eaten) here in Moscow since at least the early 2000s.

A hot dog with a bacon strip and garnished with three sauces and some crunches.

Actually I like Sibylla as I like most fast food but without being especially fond of it.

Views of the inside of a Lukoil filling station cafe - you get your car filled up and can stuff yourself with junk fast food.

As they say, filling stations are not recommended for fine dining but this one is OK as far as I am concerned.

Restaurant Zhiguli

My restaurants...

...late lunch at 17:00 in Restaurant-Bar Zhiguli on Novy Arbat, Moscow, last Wednesday, July 16. It used to be the whole building but now it is just a rather small area almost in the basement.

Okroshka, a salad with carrot, cheese and sauce, no idea what it is called, and a glass of tea. Okroshka is a kind of cold soup, this one made with kvass.

Okroshka was cold, as I said, which is good on a hot day, it was +32 Celsius, 6/10.

I liked the salad even better, 7/10.

Tea with a teabag. Actually they drink beer there but I didn't take any for some reason.

Price, about RUB 250.

A view out the window. Two early Ladas - VAZ-2101 in front.

In fact, I have a pretty good idea they are owned by the restaurant and are there on purpose -- these cars were branded domestically as the Zhiguli same as the name of the restaurant.

This restaurant is a Soviet nostalgia themed restaurant.

Other guests?

No, it is a kind of photo partition behind which is entry to the restrooms. I know who they are. Do you?
