More Summery Beer: Pilsner Urquell

In more beer this summer had some cans of Pilsner Urquell.

I know it's very highly thought of, however don't get what the fuss is all about, yes, it's nice enough and better than most of the mass-market swill beer but that's about all.

Still it was not unwelcome for a beer lunch on a hot July day in the country out of Moscow.

Beer Appreciation: Westmalle Dubbel

In more beer appreciation and beer photography, on a hot day, a couple of bottles of cool beer won't go amiss, even if it's dark.

Although dark beer is not the most obvious choice for a hot 30+ day, it can be done if the beer is good and Westmalle beer is at least above average, seeing as it is one of the renowned trappist, or monastic, breweries, with Westmalle Tripel consistently in top beers though this one is Dubbel.

Here is another beer lover... or is he a snack?

Nice, if nothing particularly special, but pleasant effects after two bottles and way better than mass market beers.

Vintage Beer Labels Collage

Beer is one of the recurrent topics on this blog being one of my hobbies, so here is a collage of vintage beer bottle labels that I have found in some book.

The one below looks like a runaway favorite.

Old Soviet beer labels.

Actually this type of photography where you photograph some printed material or even a painting is known as copy photography and can sometimes produce great results, given modern highly capable cameras, if done right of course.

For example, if you have one of the top-notch cameras you could go to a museum, photograph a painting by the great master that you like and then quality-print the picture and voila! - you have something to hang on your wall! For free too!

Beer: Hoppymilk milkshake apa local

Today's beer was Hoppymilk milkshake apa by a local Moscow microbrewery - beer 138

About minus 15 Celcius today and was getting colder as the day progressed.

The style is milkshake APA, some people even know what APA stands for.

But there is a jungle amidst the snow.

It was okay, not the best but far from the worst either... and as I said on this blog before, Russian microbrewery craft beer is the best in the world. No discussion.

A Late Lunch on Three Beers and Some Pistachios

In a return to my Beer, Beer Appreciation and Beer Photography series of posts, here is a report on a very recent visit to a craft beer bar here in Moscow and for the first time since the pandemic struck, I think.

The dumb Google Blogger picture uploader once again reversed the sequence of photos, so I am starting crabwise from the end rather than from the beginning.

Beer No. 3/136 (on the day/overall to date)

Beer No. 2/135

 Beer No. 1/134

The date was December 3, 2020

And here is the place.

A hole in the wall kind of place next to a major commuter train station with an appropriate scenery - nothing much to look at during the day ... but at night atmospheric.

In Beer Brewlok Leshy IPA

Here is a new beer in my Beer and Beer Photography series on this blog: the Brewlok Leshy IPA

This one is a proper IPA!

Drinks nicely and produces a pleasant steady and long-lasting effect (for a beer).

My view, and namely, that top Russian craft beers are the best in the world, is well-known to readers of this blog, and this view is based on my honest beer drinking experience and to date I have tried about 150 craft beers from countries like Belgium, Germany, England, Scotland, Holland, Italy, Japan, Norway, the US, China, the Czech Republic and others that I forget right now in addition to those from Russia.

Leshy is a forest deity in Eastern European mythology, so an axe is entirely apropos here.

 Lumberjack's lunch.

In beer: Brewdog Jack Hammer Ruthless IPA

In my Beer and Beer Photography series, here is a bottle of Brewdog Jack Hammer Ruthless IPA consumed no so long ago.

Not too bad but, on the other hand, nothing particularly special now that I am into craft beers.

After sampling some Russian craft beers, this beer fails to positively surprise, if it is a nice enough IPA.

Some more views.
