Cactus: In Yellow Bloom

Here is something unexpected that was observed yesterday.

At one of my homes, where I haven't been for more than two weeks, a cactus sprang to life and produced this wonderful yellow flower.

The point is this cactus like those keeping it company in the above picture are very cheap cactus mix plants probably from the land of the Dutch that they sell at malls and such and are for this reason known in my household as Dutch mutants.

This one was a small round ball and morphed into some fingered thing.

However all is forgiven now that after over 15 years of non-descript existence, it has managed to give something this pleasing to the eye.

Cellphone pictures are only so good.

The previous time I had one of these Dutch mutants flower was on May Day in 2014, that's 8 years ago.

And it hasn't flowered since.
