Dniester is a salad made from shredded white cabbage, salted and lightly crushed, sliced semi-smoked sausage, canned peas and mayonnaise.
According to legend, the Dniester salad was invented in the 1960s by the chef of the Chernivtsi restaurant Dnister, located on Olha Kobylyanska ul , No. 7. Dniester became the restaurant's signature salad, as well as a popular recipe for home cooking due to its taste, ease of preparation, and inexpensive ingredients. Later, the salad allegedly won a prize at the All-Union Culinary Competition in Moscow.
In
addition to the main ingredients, the salad is prepared with the
addition of onions, herbs, sugar, and decorated with boiled eggs on
top.
