Salad Dniester, photo from last summer

Tossed together real quick

So here it is - Dniester salad from Ukraine, but tasty and cheap

chopped (shredded) white cabbage, perhaps lightly crushed
canned green peas
chopped semi-smoked sausage, like Krakow sausage, or boiled-smoked sausage
salt, pepper to taste
dressing - mayonnaise,

toss

voila

Official description from Wikipedia

Dniester is a salad made from shredded white cabbage, salted and lightly crushed, sliced semi-smoked sausage, canned peas and mayonnaise.

According to legend, the Dniester salad was invented in the 1960s by the chef of the Chernivtsi restaurant Dnister, located on Olha Kobylyanska ul , No. 7. Dniester became the restaurant's signature salad, as well as a popular recipe for home cooking due to its taste, ease of preparation, and inexpensive ingredients. Later, the salad allegedly won a prize at the All-Union Culinary Competition in Moscow.

In addition to the main ingredients, the salad is prepared with the addition of onions, herbs, sugar, and decorated with boiled eggs on top.

Russian Wines

Today was looking at some premium Russian wines at some wine emporium

Arthur Sarkissian Russian wines guide - pretty expensive too, hardcover, softcover and notebook to take wine-tasting notes

These are premium Russian wines from a variety of wine-growing regions and by different makes, all are supposedly highly rated.

Expensive too, no way your average americuck or europoo can afford any of them, I think.

Sherry Al Fresco

Some autumnal sherry at dacha for us

This is Massandra Sherry - a Crimean sherry, pretty good, not what you, degenerates, inbreds and cross-breds in the west, europoops and americucks, are accustomed to swill; this is good stuff

How's this for a wine lunch on a plastic garden table in October, at my country residence, not locked up for winter yet.

Though wine was pretty good.

Today's Bottle of Wine

Today snagged this bottle of liquid Nerello Mascalese grapes, a Sicilian red wine, I am positive it'll be good for the price and at least for one lunch.

Not sure though we can provide these food pairings, though plenty of (stool) pigeons around, I think, a lump of mozarella with sliced tomatoes and some chicken breast will have to do.

Food pairings for Nerello Mascalese wines include:

  • Pigeon breasts in red-wine sauce
  • Wild mushroom and eggplant filo parcels
  • Linguini with tomato and clams

Cava in Morning

Nothing like a bottle of Cava in the morning.

Semi Seco, which is the second sweetest grade, is indeed too sweet but after half a bottle it doesn't seem like a problem anymore.

Also, wonder what Palette de France means.

Still, the black fungus cheese is pretty good, and goes well with cava/champagne.
