Eating Swiss in Moscow...

Partaking of the joys of Swiss cuisine... Swiss delicacies to be exact, premium cheeses and meats.

Sent some people over there to Zurich to fetch me some bits and tits, a little of this and a little of that.

Hand-made cheeses in assortment.

This is Belper Knolle itself!

Brie and some cheese with mold. Mold and mildew is our everything!

And some meats, including some nice ham, sausage, jamon and something called "flesh cheese".

Globus is the place to go to for delicacies while in Switzerland.

The cheeses.

The meats.

Free China Journal Issue # 60, October 2, 1993

Here is an issue of the Free China Journal, Issue # 60, October 2, 1993 that I found somewhere recently.

Leads with this story of a hijacking of an Tu-152 from Mainland China to the ROC.

And there is a cartoon making fun of Mainland China losing the 2000 Olympic bid to Sydney.

Of course, China has since held the Olympics Games - in 2008 to be precise.

And here is the rest of the newspaper for lovers of history to peruse at leisure.

In Dubna, Russia, August 2019

In my travel and travel photography series, here is a photo record of an August 2019 trip to the city of Dubna north of Moscow.

Dubna in August 2019 in some photos.

Lebiazhie (Swan) Lake in Dubna.

The cleanest and most beautiful lake in Dubna.

Even in summer, water transparency is a few meters.

Not a single river or a stream flows into the lake.

On the shore of the lake is a picturesque lighthouse.

By The Oak book and souvenir shop.

A striking example of wall painting by B. Makarov.

In the shop, you can buy souvenirs with views of the city, as well as guides and maps of Dubna and the surrounding area.

Dubna, Sakharova ul. 2, est 1.

A monument to the MiG-25.

The fastest and highest altitude jet fighter in the world.

As of 2019, it remains the fastest mass-produced manned aircraft in operational service.

One of the few aircraft that was almost entirely made of stainless steel.

Dubna, corner of Tsentralnaya and Oktyabrskaya.

A memorial to the X-22 missile (glory to the creators of aircraft).

The monument author is S.I. Karimov.

The large air launched anti-aircraft carrier missile was developed at locally at Dubna.

View of the Ivankovo reservoir.

In March 1937, the Ivankovo dam blocked the Volga.

A reservoir was formed, called the Moscow Sea.

It flooded a territory, which was previously occupied by 106 settlements.

Another sight is this hardened pillbox.

It used to control access to the dam in case the German Nazis advanced that far in 1941 (which they nearly did albeit temporarily).

Spillway dam of Ivankovo hydroelectric station..

The dam of the Ivankovskaya hydroelectric station is one of the power stations of the Moscow Canal and is part of the Volga-Kama cascade of hydroelectric power stations.
The dam is more than 200 meters long and 29 meters high and was built in 1932.

A highway has been laid on the hydroelectric power station constructions, from which panoramic views of the city open.

Lenin monument.

The second largest monument to Lenin in Russia (and in the world).

The height of the monument is 25 meters, and together with the pedestal - 37 meters.

Location: the city of Dubna at the entrance to the dam from Moscow.
