A massive case, also a faceted plastic crystal (on the inside).
This is a "quartz" watch, i.e. powered by a battery which moves something called a stepping motor.
It still works but runs at +18 sec per 24 hours, which could be acceptable for a mechanical watch but way too off for a quartz watch.
However, it is unlikely that it can be repaired as it is probably due to the quartz itself being too old and 25+ years is a lot, in quartz terms.
Photography is not too good either... but you can see the important parts.
Hi I have a watch like this, got it from an online auction. When it arrived I opened it and the battery and movement was corroded. I tried and cleaned it as best I could and it only ticked a couple seconds, it might be damaged. Also tried to oil the stepping motor but it still doesn't run. I think its completely dead....
ReplyDeletehello, sorry to hear that, but, well, you have to realize that these watches are over 30 years old by now at least. And quartz crystals deteriorate during this much time. So chances are, even if everything was okay with the battery and the movement, it would still not keep very good time if at all and you would not be able to use as a daily watch.

Now proper mechanical wind movements are a different story, could still work reliably after decades and maybe even hundreds of years.
