Bourne Movies

Here are my thoughts on the Bourne movies, not that anybody asked for them, but my blog - my rules, so here goes:

The only decent movie was the first one - Bourne Identity.

In fact, it was and is pretty good for what it is.

Come the director Greengrass, and the malaise sets in.

Bourne Supremacy wasn't a total failure but the other three - Bourne Ultimatum, the last Bourne to date (what's its name) as well as the no-Bourne (and no-Greengrass) flick in between were just outright horrible.

Greengrass' drunk camera disease progressed from only fight scenes and car chases in Bourne Supremacy to pretty much the entire movie in later features, even dull dialog scenes were all shaking.

I have seen shakier movies on Youtube but more rarely recently.

The choppy editing is very choppy too. Again, they do better editing and make more sense in cheap Bottom of Youtube movies.

What's the point of going to location to film if it is all chopped up anyway and you can't see anything beyond shakes and transitions.

Almost all of the action relies on Hollywood's stock action sound effects and soundtrack - remove that and, with no over-the-top sound to cue you, everything is pretty much pedestrian at best.

And, finally, the stories are pretty stupid but they always were so.

As for Greengrass, I don't see how he can be recommended or even allowed to make any more movies on the strength of these disasters.

Also, whatever Matt Damon may once have had has long petered out, and he is no particular fun to look at whoever you are.

1/2 stars out of 4.
