Smaller Pobeda 2602 by ZiM
A small later-years Pobeda by ZiM factory.
The Pobeda was longest produced at ZiM.
This watch is one of those later years ZiM Pobedas.
An iconic Russian wristwatch, the Pobeda was produced from at least 1945 until about 2003 at various watch factories.

Shortwave... China Radio International
More recent shortwave.
China Radio International listened to on September 27, 2015 on two frequencies.
CRI's Heartbeat program, a current affairs program about life in China, I think.
Heard on shortwave on 7349 kHz
An another bit of CRI, probably the same program a bit earlier.
Heard on 6076 kHz
CORRECTION. 6076 kHZ is not CRI. As per CRIENGLISH:
I am going to send in a reception report as of today and see if I can get a QSL card.
Bonus - some shortwave noise on 5158 kHz
Clearly, a man-made noise.

Shortwave: World Harvest Radio
Listened in on shortwave on 27/09/2015 at my Dacha in the woods (and swamps) about 100 km north of Moscow.
New to me, World Harvest Radio (International), a conservative Christian radio out of the USA.
New to me, World Harvest Radio (International), a conservative Christian radio out of the USA.
Reception is rather good given the circumstances and the radio I use, a mid-of-the-range Grundig Yacht Boy 80, nothing fancy.
It identifies itself at about 5:18 in the video above.
Frequency: 5920 kHz

I wonder where the broadcast comes from so I can here it so good in Moscow.
According to wikipedia, it is Angel 2 service of WHRI which is supposed to be re-transmitted from Palau?
Or is it, more likely, re-transmitted from somewhere in Eastern Europe?
Completed a reception report form on the WHR website, anxiously awaiting a QSL card. Will post on this blog when (and if) I get one.

Leader 02 Лидер Electronic Watch
From my collection is this old-school but rather recent electronic watch - LEADER 02 electronic wristwatch made by KAMERTON Factory, Pinsk, Republic of Belarus.
This watch was made in 2008, and I bought it circa 2013. It works and still runs on the same button cell battery I bought it with.

Unlike some other Leaders, such as Leader 10, which were clones of Electronika watches or later ChN watches, this Leader 02 has no corresponding Electronika or ChN watch and uses a Chinese module.
But what it has instead is a pleasant luminescent back light.
Other functions include:
- Current time and calendar
- Alarm
- Stop watch
It is certainly no Apple watch... but then it doesn't cost $500 (more like $5) and you don't have to charge it every day or fuss about it.

At Mosquarium on Sept 9, 2015
At Moscow's Mosquarium Aquarium on Sept 9, 2015.
Tickets.
Photography is very difficult there because of dim light, ban on firing flashes (not to disturb the fishes), especially if you have the simplest tools as I do, using a cheap point-and-click mainly.
These are just the "best" photos - all other photos are on my other blog Horolex at В Москвариуме на ВДНХ (70+ фото).
Fish overhead.
Open top aquariums.
This butterfly fish came out the best on my cheap point-and-click camera.

Road and Track - The Ultimate Automotive-Themed Watches
Road and Track on automotive-themed watches

The Ultimate Automotive-Themed Watches
It starts like this...
Gearheads have an almost irrational attraction to fine timepieces; there's something about wearing a minuscule mechanical movement that captures the imaginations (and wallets) of countless car fiends.
Perhaps it's the wonderment of miniaturization, or the way a ticking watch serves as a perfect sub-scale metaphor for a pulsing engine and whirring gearbox. Whatever the reason, the car-watch connection is as old as the automobile itself, a bond that has long inspired high-end watchmakers to craft lavish homages to the four-wheeled world.
While a functional mechanical watch can be had for under $200 (see virtually any modern Seiko), the pantheon of ultra-high-end wristwatches explores extreme engineering, unrestrained styling, and unparalleled exclusivity that can cost as much as a Paris pied-à-terre.
That said, these 10 automotive-themed watches are among the crème de la crème of wrist candy that feature just as much inventive thinking and brain-bending design as you'll find in a seven-figure hypercar.
...and then goes on some.. with pictures too.

1993 Luch Travel Clock Mechanical w Electronic Alarm
A Luch (read: Looch) travel clock from my collection.
An 1992 (1993) clock, it is a travel alarm clock.
The clock itself is mechanical and the mechanical movement trips an electronic AA battery-powered alarm, and not only that, there is also a choice of either one alarm signal or three melodies to be made by moving the two sliders on the left-hand side at the front.
The battery compartment cover is missing, as is a small foldable support.

According to WUS sources this type of travel clock was first produced either by Swiss Nepro or the GDR's Ruhla under the brand of Sumatic.
