Taste-testing Dvin Armenian Cognac

My bottle of the Armenian Dvin cognac which was already mentioned in some of the previous posts on this blog.

A gift box.

A solid paper box but just that... a box, no glasses or anything.

Minimum age of Cognac distillates is 7 years, maximum, 35.

A nice amber color.

France doesn't allow this to called a "cognac" because "cognac" is a controlled appellation whatever, but, make no mistake about it, cognac it is and a fine one at that and even much better than most premium French brands at XO level as far as I am concerned.

Enjoy the classics!

In the kitchen.

I like everything, first aroma, second aroma, tasting and after taste.

Notes of dry fruit and some nuts as well as carnation in aroma and taste.

Dry plum or prune in taste.

50% but easy to drink.

This blend was a beloved of one Winston Churchill, Britain's PM, during World War Two.

Per wikipedia, it is claimed that during the Yalta Conference, Winston Churchill was so impressed with the Armenian brandy Dvin given to him by Joseph Stalin that he asked for several cases of it to be sent to him each year. Reportedly 400 bottles of Dvin were shipped to Churchill annually. This brandy was named in honour of the ancient capital Dvin, and was first produced in 1943

Other sources also claim that, in addition to Churchill who consumed a bottle of it a day, Frank Sinatra and Agatha Christie were also patrons.

While these exact anecdotes may not necessarily be true in every detail, yet it is clear that there must have been some foundation to them.

I am using a 2018 Soccer World Cup glass to drink it.

Pineapple juice to freshen the taste buds without affecting them in any way.
